This week's Funding Bulletin (November 11th - November 15th 2024)

A short summary of funding opportunities that have came to our attention this week.
Household Support Fund

The Household Support Fund (HSF) is a government initiative in the UK aimed at helping low-income households cover essential costs during challenging times, especially as living costs have risen sharply in recent years. Originally introduced in October 2021, the fund has been extended several times due to continued demand. Local councils administer the fund and distribute financial support to eligible residents.

The application forms for the extended Household Support Fund are now available through the Wirral Council website.

Current deadline: 18th November 2024

The Foyle Foundation’s Small Grants Scheme

Grants between £2,000 and £10,000 are available to support small, grassroots, and local charities that deliver services to the young, vulnerable, elderly, disadvantaged, or general community across the UK.

The funding can be used to cover projects, core costs, building projects, or essential equipment to enable ongoing service provision for charities with a turnover of less than £150,000 per annum that can show financial stability and a clear need for their services.

Current deadline: 31st January 2025

The Young Gamechangers Fund

The Co-op Foundation has announced that round 2 of the Young Gamechangers Fund has opened for applications. This £4.5 million fund supports youth-led social action in communities across the UK.

The Young Gamechangers Fund, a partnership between the Co-op Foundation and the #iwill Fund, aims to support young activists, campaigners, disrupters, co-operates, and social entrepreneurs to lead social action to improve their communities.

Current deadline: 6th December 2024

The National Lottery Community Fund

The National Lottery Community Fund has announced that it will commit to at least £3 billion of funding by 2030 that will put community power and control at the heart of its grant making in England.

Over £4 million will be available for civil society organisations and communities who would like to take part in the development phase of You Decide and the Community Power Fund. For the Community Power Fund, between 10 and 15 partner organisations will be supported in running new or existing initiatives to strengthen community power, particularly amongst excluded, marginalised, and underrepresented groups.

Recognising the critical value of grassroots funding, The National Lottery Community Fund is also making at least £135 million available per year through its National Lottery Awards for All funding programme, up to 2030.

The Screwfix Foundation

The Screwfix Foundation has re-opened for applications from charities and not-for-profit organisations for projects that will fix, repair, maintain, and improve the properties and community facilities of those in need due to financial hardship, sickness, disability, distress, or other disadvantage throughout the UK.

Grants in the region of £5,000 are available for a variety of projects, such as:

  • Improved energy-efficient lighting & heating

  • Installation of new kitchen, bathroom, etc.

  • Installation of a sensory room

  • General painting & decorating

  • Improving the safety and security of a building

Barchester’s Charitable Foundation

Small community groups, local charities and individuals can apply for grants of between £100 and £2,500 for equipment and to support projects that tackle loneliness amongst older people (65+) and adults with a disability (18+).

The funding supports actions that combat loneliness by connecting or re-connecting people with others in their local community.

The Foundation also makes grants of between £100 and £1,000 to help individuals, but please note that all applications for named individuals must be completed by a third party who knows the individual in a professional or community-based capacity, such as general practitioners, occupational therapists, nurses, social workers, or charity or support group representatives.

Rosa's Voices from the Frontline Fund

Grants of between £500 and £10,000 are available to support the work of grassroots women’s and girl’s organisations in achieving change in the UK. The charity Rosa is making the funding available through its Voices from the Frontline fund to support awareness-raising, momentum-building, and campaigning. This can include:

  • Campaigning for changes in policy and laws including activities such as petitions, social media campaigns and lobbying.

  • National campaigns that address issues that affect women and girls.

  • Influencing community leaders and power holders about issues that affect women and girls in a particular place or community.

  • Gathering evidence or producing tools and reports which enable women and girls and women’s organisations to campaign for change.

  • Video and media campaigns about specific issues facing women.

  • Training activists in campaigning, advocacy, lobbying or public speaking.

Organisations must submit an application form and a three-minute video outlining how they will use the funding. Potential applicants can participate in one of the ‘How to Apply’ webinars on Wednesday 27th November 2.00-3.00pm – Register here.

The programme will support organisations to build their financial resilience and operational readiness, raise social investment and, in some instances, prepare for asset acquisition.
