A short summary of funding opportunities that have came to our attention this week.

The abrdn Financial Fairness Trust

Charities, voluntary organisations, think tanks, campaigning groups, research bodies, and universities can apply for grants of between £10,000 and £200,000 for strategic work that improves living standards and personal finances, especially for low-to-middle incomes.

The abrdn Financial Fairness Trust is looking to support proposals from organisations across the UK seeking funding for policy work, campaigning, and research focused on three areas that influence financial well-being: income, spending, and assets. These might include wages, pensions and taxation, gambling, borrowing and repayment problems, and savings.

Between fifteen and twenty grants are awarded each year, and priority is given to work that focuses on younger generations.

Current deadline: 3rd June 2025

The Screwfix Foundation

The Screwfix Foundation has re-opened for applications from charities and not-for-profit organisations for projects that will fix, repair, maintain, and improve the properties and community facilities of those in need due to financial hardship, sickness, disability, distress, or other disadvantage throughout the UK.

Grants in the region of £5,000 are available for a variety of projects, such as:

  • Improved energy-efficient lighting & heating

  • Installation of new kitchen, bathroom etc.

  • Installation of a sensory room

  • General painting & decorating

  • Improving the safety and security of a building

Current deadline: 10th May 2025

Help the Homeless

Small homeless charities can apply for capital grants of up to £5,000 to help individuals rebuild their lives.

Eligible applicants must be registered charities with an annual turnover below £500,000 and less than six months of unrestricted reserves. Typically, funding is awarded to organisations running residential or training facilities designed to provide homeless people with direct support and pathways to independence.

Current deadline: 15th March 2025

The D'Oyly Carte Charitable Trust

Grants are available for UK-registered charities that seek to enhance and improve people’s lives by advancing the arts, health and medical welfare, and the environment.

The D'Oyly Carte Charitable Trust typically awards grants of between £500 and £6,000 for projects and core costs, with a preference for small-scale, locally based initiatives.

The types of services provided to communities could include:

Arts: Promoting access to the arts, providing performance development opportunities for early-career artists, and supporting charities that engage young people on the fringes of society through music and drama projects

Environment: Conserving the countryside, encouraging voluntary work and active involvement in hands-on activities, particularly those that benefit young people, and supporting rural crafts and skills in heritage conservation

Medical Welfare: Supporting charities that alleviate the suffering of adults and children with medical conditions, providing music and art therapy to improve quality of life, and providing breaks for carers without regular support

Current deadline: 3rd June 2025

The McCarthy Stone Foundation's Dementia Grants Programme

Grants of up to £7,500 will soon be available to support small dementia clubs and memory cafes across England, Scotland and Wales.

At least 20 grants will be awarded to organisations that provide services to adults over 65 years of age and their carers. This might include the provision of dementia clubs, carer training, or memory cafes.

Registered charities, community groups, and community interest companies with an annual income of under £250,000 will be eligible to apply. Priority will be given to those working in areas of high deprivation.

Current deadline: 14th March 2025

UK Government's Tackling Food Surplus at the Farm Gate Scheme

The UK government has launched the Tackling Food Surplus at the Farm Gate scheme, allocating £15 million to address the issue of edible food waste on farms. This initiative offers grants starting from £20,000 to food redistribution charities aiming to rescue surplus produce and deliver it to communities in need. The funding can be used for purchasing packaging and labelling equipment, vehicles for transporting goods from farms, and storage solutions like fridges or freezers to prolong food freshness.

The scheme is open to food redistribution charities and encourages interested groups to apply. Applicants are invited to submit proposals detailing their plans to collaborate with farmers to access surplus food and enhance their capacity for redistribution.

This fund aims to strengthen the connection between farms and charitable organisations, ensuring that surplus food reaches those who need it most. By supporting charities in overcoming logistical challenges, the government seeks to reduce food waste and combat hunger within communities.

Current deadline: 13th March 2025

The Hays Travel Foundation

Registered charities operating in areas in which Hays Travel operates can apply for grants from the Hays Travel Foundation. The Foundation offers funding between £2,000 and £15,000 which aim to support projects helping disadvantaged young people up to 25 years old in the areas of education, prevention of poverty, health, arts, culture, or sports.

Interested charities can apply online through the Hays Travel Foundation website. For local good causes, individuals or organisations are encouraged to approach their nearest Hays Travel branch directly to discuss potential support.

In addition to the Foundation's grants, each Hays Travel branch has a yearly budget for local good causes, allowing them to support fundraising activities or worthy causes in their communities. This broadens the company's community impact beyond youth-focused projects.

Current deadline: 7th March 2025

Our past Funding Bulletins will also have grant opportunities that are still open!
