Lockdown Procedure Guidance from Early Childhood Services

We are aware that there are a number of service providers who are concerned following the awful event in Southport this week.

In light of this, Early Childhood Services, who are part of Wirral Council, have sent a Lockdown Procedure Guidance document that we are now sharing with the sector. This document can help organisations that safeguard children and young people as part of their service.

An important part of the guidance comes from the introductory statement:

"Whilst there is currently no statutory requirement for settings to develop a ‘Lockdown Policy’ it is expected that settings will have Lockdown Procedures in place to support them to manage unexpected risks and threats. Whilst Wirral Council can provide guidance, it would not be appropriate to provide a generic policy or set of procedures, as they must be personalised for each setting and take account of the geographical location of the setting, its layout and the age and needs of children present. Lockdown Procedures should be straightforward, simple to follow and concise."

Please find below the full Lockdown Procedure Document:

Thank you to all organisations that work to safeguard children across the Wirral and our condolences to all those affected by this terrible event.
